Concerns over Olympic transport demand

A report by the London Assembly’s transport committee has raised fears that ‘extreme’ demand poses a risk to the running of the 2012 Games. Clearing the hurdles acknowledges


that extensive plans are already being drawn up by organisers, but raises concerns regarding the extra capac- ity that will be required. It is thought that 5.3 million peo-


ple will be attending the Games next summer, with the nine busiest days set to see up to 650,000 tickets avail- able at venues across the capital.

Virgin Active to acquire Esporta

Virgin Active is to expand its portfolio aſter agreeing a deal to acquire rival health and rac- quet club operator Esporta for £77.6m. The purchase of Esporta Racquets and


Non-Racquets Holdings will see 55 locations rebranded and added to Virgin’s existing estate. Societe Generale is to retain owner- ship of New Esporta Holding (NEH), which is chaired by Richard Segal and owns 17 free- hold or long leasehold racquet clubs. Virgin Active will take on a 25-year lease of the NEH assets, with an annual rent of £13.1m a year. Esporta CEO John Cleland, who joined in December 2009 as part of Societe Generale’s
