Focus on families at The Old Plantation
THE Old Plantation in Bearsted will show its family-friendly credentials over the Easter and royal wedding weekends. Nigel and Susan Williams have quickly turned around the fortunes of this previously run- down pub and have been rolling out the welcome mat for regulars and newcomers alike. A special Family Fun Weekend, starting with ’80s music on Good Friday, is aimed at this growing clientele. There will be karaoke on Saturday; roast dinners and Easter egg hunt on the Sunday; and on the Monday, a big family day with hog roast, bucking bronco, assault course and bouncy castle.
It will be followed by Royal
Wedding Weekend when a big- screen TV will bring all the magic moments into the olde- worlde inn. Food will be served all day, including cream teas. Fifties rock 'n'roll band Lee and
the Hot Rods will perform in the evening, from 7pm. The Williams say the pub is going from strength to strength and is now open for food every day - lunchtimes and evenings - following the addition of a new member in the kitchen. An extra attraction on Monday nights is a £6 pie-and-a-pint deal.
Local clubs and associations are welcome to hold their meetings at The Old Plantation, which is less than a minute's drive from the A20 Ashford Road. The pub already plays host to a car enthusiasts' club and local football managers. And to prove the locals are big- hearted, a Comic Relief evening raised £300.65, which included a donation of 10% of the day's takings.
