El Mariachi- our school Motor Yacht
Here at Go Club Yachting we offer both the RYA National Powerboat scheme and the RYA Motor Cruising scheme courses throughout the year.
We often get asked “what is the difference between Powerboating and Motor Cruising”?
Andy replies “Motor Cruising is on a larger boat. It usually has accommodation and a chart table. A Motor Yacht is basically a large boat (often called a Motor Cruiser or Motor Yacht) that is powered by one or two engines that are either diesel or gasoline. Motor Yachts can range vastly in size from motor yachts as small as 27 feet and as large as 80 feet.
The average size of a Motor Yacht is around 15 metres. Most Motor Yachts have the ability to travel great distances on the open oceans, rivers or great lakes.
Our Motor Yachts are all suitable for ocean sailing, and are also available to
8
charter by clients who have completed their RYA Coastal Skipper (Motor) course.
We run our RYA Motor courses on our 12m Motor Yacht. With 2 large double cabins, twin heads (one ensuite) and a well tted out galley, separate dining area and saloon she is ideal for motor courses - providing spacious accommodation on board while exploring the Canary Islands.
If you are interested in charter: she can sleep 8 persons in comfort; and is available both with, and without, a skipper.
A Powerboat is usually under 10 metres long, and is without accommodation and a chart table. The RYA National
Powerboat
scheme is aimed at those using planning and displacement craft. The boats can have a solid hull powered by a small inboard engine (often called a sports boat) or rubber tubes (called a RIB) with an outboard engine. You will often
Our RIB see RIBs used by divers.
We use a RIB for our Powerboat courses which planes above the water - making it fast and economical to run.
Because of their small size Powerboats are easy to handle and the basic Powerboat Level 2 (National Powerboat Certi cate) course can be done in two days.
The RYA Powerboat Scheme has become hugely
successful
because the courses that form it deliver the skills that boaters need. The scheme comprises 5 courses with training available to those from age 8 upwards.
Our RIB is available for charter if you have completed the RYA Powerboat Level 2.
There is no clear divide between the two schemes so if you are interested in handling a boat and are not sure which category it ts please look at our website or email us for some advice.
