Here at Club Yachting we are often asked about the weather in the summer months - with often Clients worried that we are even hotter than the Mediteranean - but this is not the case.
With our temperate climate we are often known as “the land of eternal spring” - with constant warm temperatures year-round and a fresh feeling, due to the pleasant Gulf air currents. Even during July and August the average daytime temperatures only peak at 30°C - and without the humidity of Greece and Turkey.
Tenerife weather is some of the best on offer around the world with its constant warm climate. The coastal areas offer the wamest weather with clearest skies - seemingly endless sunshine and only occasional rain.
Southern and western Tenerife are the warmest sides of the island, with the northern side (Santa Cruz, and Puerto de la Cruz) receiving more rain - resulting in lusher, greener growth and dense areas of tropical plantations. The island is full of distinct micro-climates and Mount Teide (Spain’s tallest mountain at 3800m) regularly features snowy weather from around 2,000 m upwards in the winter months while it is 20 degrees on the coast! Tenerife’s famous Passat winds, known locally as the “Vientos Alisios”, and surrounding ocean, combine to regulate the temperatures even during the sunniest weather - offering a pleasant cooling effect and gentle breezes.
Spring is a particularly popular time of the year to visit when temperatures rise slightly from February and March onwards averaging around 22°C.
By April and May, average daytime temperatures hover around 24°C, with endless sunny weather.
The Canary Islands best weather falls between May and October. Although the temperatures are high during July and August peaking at 30°C, the dry climate is pleasant and not uncomfortably hot or humid. Sea temperatures are extremely warm at around 24°C.
The winter is the coolest time of the year on Tenerife; although the weather and climate is still extremely mild, retaining a tropical feel with low rainfall, endless stretches of sandy beaches and sea temperatures of around 20°C and average daytime temperatures of around 21°C.
If you are thinking of some summer sun, great temperatures and low rainfall and humidity, with good sailing winds why not give the Canaries a go!
