connected to major cities through an arterial road network. A railway link between Riyadh and Dammam has further reduced the com- muting time, with the government planning to connect all the major cities by railway in the near future. There is also a planned metro line along King Abdullah Road, which will connect RICEC to key areas of the city and major hotels in a matter of minutes.
With an excellent communications net- work, RICEC provides broadcast facilities, multilingual simultaneous interpretation, video conferencing and presentation facili- ties, high-tech audio-visual solutions, and wireless internet.
A large, landscaped parking area, fully supported by traffic control and parking management services, ensures that visitors spend more time inside the halls doing business. The catering services, restaurants and a host of customer services offer more convenience to the attendees. The safety and security of the participants also remain key factors in all operational processes at RICEC. In terms of accessibility, RICEC is only 20 minutes from King Khalid International Airport along the Eastern Ring Road. It is close to all major hotels in Riyadh and is well-
What facilities does the venue offer? Spread across 189,000 square metres of land with easy access to the venue, RICEC is the perfect location for all types of trade shows, conferences, corporate events and similar functions. Offering state-of-the-art facilities and professional services, RICEC is also one of the most versatile venues of its kind in the region. It is equipped with four halls, with a to- tal pillar-free floor space of more than 15,000 square metres, enabling RICEC to host large events and several shows concurrently. The venue also offers wireless internet connectivity and a modern surveillance system to ensure that any event held here offers the maximum convenience to all participants. The RICEC facility features a convention centre complete with an auditorium that can seat 1,100, a VIP lounge, press and business centres, fully- equipped meeting rooms, underground and open parking spaces for 1,500 cars, restaurants, cafs, warehousing facilities and loading and unloading areas. There
are 300 covered parking spaces providing direct access to the halls and auditorium. The floors, designed to take five tons of load per square metre, all meet international standards for floor loading, thus enabling display of heavy and large machines and other equipment. The ceiling offers a 30 kilogram per square metre suspension load capacity, while the service trenches offer organisers maximum floor utilisation. Our 4x6 metre service doors allow large trucks to enter the halls during the buildup to a show. The main exhibition hall can be divided into four separate halls of varying size to satisfy the needs of exhibition organisers, with adequate administrative support facilities and electro- mechanical services provided. The outdoor exhibition area is close to all service entrances.
What is the ideal event to hold at the venue?
The venue can host all kinds of events, be it business-to-consumer that attract large volumes of visitors or B2B events. RICEC offers the highest degree of flexibility, with the ability to host simultaneous shows that all have separate access and registration facilities. The main concourse and the outdoor area can augment the display space for exhibitors. The ideal event at RICEC is one that of- fers maximum value to the participants. We have seen a substantial increase in demand for our facilities since we opened in March 2009, but we strive hard to ensure that the events held at RICEC are value driven for the participants. We are working on a long-term plan with the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) to offer profes- sional education in event management to improve overall value for participants.
