MISTER SISTER LEATHER & MARDI GRAS WITH THE SISTERS OF PERPETUAL INDULGENCE Come on out for a fantastic evening of beads, leather, debauchery and the crowning
of Mister Sister Leather 2011, as the Los Angeles Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence host the Mister Sister Leather Contest. The official contest and fundraiser is on Saturday, March 5, at 9 p.m. Then on the night of Tuesday, March 8 join the Sisters back at the Eagle for the Victory Party and Mardi Gras celebration. The event also includes the an- nual art auction and a raffle for some fantastic prizes. The Mister Sister Leather Contest and related festivities take place at the Eagle, 4219 Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles. Entrance is a suggested donation of $7 and all proceeds from the event will benefit the Lifeworks youth mentoring program of the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center. CREATING A FAMILY CONFERENCE Thinking about starting a family, but don’t know where to start? The Creating
a Family Conference will help give you the answers. The half-day conference for prospective LGBT parents will feature experts in the field of LGBT family formation, who will answer questions about the various ways to create a family. Participants will leave with resources that will not only help to guide them on the journey to parenthood, the information will also tell them everything they need to know about the adoption process, legal issues to consider when starting a family, an- swers about insemination and sperm donors, how to get started with surrogacy and whether co-parenting is right for you. The Creating A Family Conference will take place at The Village– Ed Gould Plaza, 1125 N. OF COLOR FILM FESTIVAL Outfest will present Fusion – the Los Angeles LGBT People of Color Film Festi-
val on Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5. Now in its eighth year, Fusion is the only multicultural LGBT film festival of its kind. The festival will include short films, feature films, panels, workshops and parties that highlight and celebrate the diversity of the LGBT community. Co-presented by HBO and NBC Universal, Fusion 2011 is comprised of The Wiz Sing-A-Long, A Conversation with Dee Rees, a shorts program showcasing eight short films, the Legacy Project screening of A Thousand Clouds of Peace, the documentary Hooters! The Making of Older, Wiser, Lesbian Cinema, and the Fusion Gala screening of Rikki Beadle-Blair’s Fit. Rikki Beadle-Blair will also receive the 2011 Fusion Achievement Award for a lifelong commitment to creating challenging and transformative entertainment. FRIENDS OF PROJECT 10 MODELS OF EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE NOW The Friends of Project 10 Models of Excellence Scholarship applications are now
available on
project10.org. The scholarship is open to Southern California graduat- ing high school seniors pursuing higher education. The scholarship committee will consider recipients, gay or straight, who have demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of civil rights in the LGBT communities. Scholarship applications are due by Saturday, May 14. The $1,000 to $3,000 scholarships will be presented at a ceremony the last weekend in June. Donors are also being sought to augment student scholarship funding. Donations can be made in the name of the donor, on behalf of an organization, or in memory of someone else.
