British Columbia GOOD SAM’s Fall Outing

BY JANET SCHLENKER

T ere were 62 rigs about 120 people at Holiday Trails Camperland RV Resort, Bridal Falls for the Fall Meeting Event held September 16-20, 2010. T e rigs came in groups from regions all over BC, like the Cariboo, Okanagan, Kootenay, Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. Even the weather cooperated for the event with sun and cloud during the daytime and rain at night. Most people came Wednesday September 15th

for the earlybird day to take advantage of the opportunity

to relax and catch up with friends before the activities started. Another group, the Pacifi c Northwest Travelers, with 30 rigs was also present in the park for the same weekend. We joined up with them for some activities. Each morning bright and early, the day started off with coff ee

and cookies provided by the Clover Loafers Chapter. It gave us the opportunity to wake up, socialize, and check out the activities for the day and fi nd out “where do we go next!” T e Lower Mainland Chapters took turns running the diff erent games throughout the Fall Meeting Event and lots of others pitched in to help. T ursday kicked off with a fun Poker Run Game. Five teams

participated in an imaginative series of games in order to earn points and playing cards for their poker hand. T e games included: Corn (Bean) Bag Toss, Bean Bag Baseball, Balls in a Bucket, String Golf, Frisbee and Bocce. T e winning team was made up with members from the Clover Loafers Chapter. In the aſt ernoon, we gathered for the President’s Meeting. Awards for the 25th

Anniversary for being a Good Sam Chapter were given out to

the Original T irteenth Chapter and the Rocky Mountain Sams. T e meeting was followed by an ice cream social. Each day before dinner we got together for Attitude Adjustment Hour, a time to rehash the day’s activities and share RV traveling experiences with friends. T ursday evening, we joined with the Pacifi c Northwest Travelers to attend a presentation on the history and local attractions of Chilliwack and surrounding area. Friday morning, 16 teams participated in the Bolo (String)

Golf tournament. We each had multiple chances to play, no matter if you were a winner or loser. T ose golf balls were fl ying everywhere. Fun was had by all. T e winning team was Bill S. (Clover Loafers) and Cecile B.

(Chilliwack Valley Sams). In the aſt ernoon, people gathered for what looked like serious competition with the Crib Tournament.

T e winners were: Men’s High – Richard B. (Sun Oka Sams),

Men’s Low – Lorne P. (Members at Large), Lady’s High – Jacqueline P. (Members at Large) and Lady’s Low – Chris M. (Clover Loafers). In the evening, those still in a playing mood gathered for Card Bingo in the clubhouse. Saturday morning started off with a Craſt and Flea Market

where you could pick up a bargain or something you have always wanted! T en, we geared up for the Bean Bag Baseball Tournament, putting together six teams with funny names. T e winning team was the Lake Lizards with a total score of 22 points aſt er two games. Aſt er lunch, we gathered for the Area Challenge for Bean Bag Baseball. Six teams were set up to represent the diff erent regions, those lacking players used extras from other regions. It was a tight competition with lots of cheering from the audience. T e winning team “the Holers Team” was made up of an assortment of members from diff erent regions. In the evening, people gathered for a dinner buff et in the clubhouse, followed by a demonstration from the Pacifi c Assistance Dogs Society (PADS). T e BC Good Sam Chapters supports PADS through fundraising throughout the year. Karen came with her dog Otto to show the Good Sam’ers some of things that a trained service dog could do. It was fascinating watching Otto work. We all gained a greater awareness and appreciation for the service provided by PADS. T e evening wrapped up with country music entertainment provided by Crystal and her band. Everyone got
