SHABREE ROBERSON Biology Major, Class of 2012 South Carolina State University


Shabree is from Austin, Texas. She hopes to attend pharmacy school, become a retail pharmacist and help people in her community to stay healthy. She has always been interested in science because scien- tific discoveries help to change the world. Shabree is also a member of the South Carolina State University Volleyball Team.


THOMAS WILDER Mechanical Engineering Major, Class of 2012 Tuskegee University


Thomas plays wide receiver for the


Golden Tigers football team. He is a two year letterman, started all eleven games in Tuskegee’s 9-2 season, was voted to the Academic All-Conference academic team, and averaged 15.3 yards per catch. Football has taught him a multitude of life lessons which he says he has transferred to academics.


TORY J. WILLIAMS Electronics Technology Major, Class of 2013 Norfolk State University


Tory is a defensive lineman for the Norfolk State Spartans football team. Head Football Coach Pete Adrian describes him as someone who “works hard at everything he does...is motivated to excel and driven to succeed.” Norfolk State Spartans represents Norfolk State University in Division I Football Champi- onship Subdivision football.

FATIMATA DIOP Civil Engineering and Mathematics Major Jackson State University


Fatima is earning dual degrees in civil engineering and mathematics. She also helps in the department’s computer lab and assists faculty in their research and teaching. Fatima is an important team member for the “Concrete Canoe” com- petition for ASCE and the “Traffic Bowl” competition for ITE.


TORIA DUKE Electronics Engineering Major, Master's Degree 2011 Norfolk State University


Toria is working on an NSF project investigating why female students stay or drop out of engi- neering and computer science fields. She has conducted numerous community service activities such as helping the campus clinic raise HIV and breast cancer aware- ness, assisting in a homeless shelter for five years, and coach- ing 20 U.S. Navy sailors for standard- ized tests.


Jordan Onqué Blake is a prior Student Leadership Award winner.


JESICA HOLLEY Mechanical Engineering Major, Class of 2012 Tuskegee University


Jesica serves as the co-chair of the College of Engineering and Physical Sci- ences Student Leadership Council. In this role she helps develop opportunities which include community service and events like the BEYA Conference. She is also an active mentor with New Step Up Mentor- ing and current president of the Tuskegee University Chapter of the NAACP.


PHILLIP D. JONES Science Major, Class 2012 United States Naval Academy


Phillip is a member of NSBE and takes a heavy load of engineering courses. He also maintained a 4.0 semester GPA as he was serving as USNA brigade sergeant major: a leadership position ranking him top of 1,200 midshipmen. He has been ac- cepted into the prestigious History honors major's program and is a member of the African Studies Association and the His- tory Honor Society.


MIDSHIPMAN FIRST CLASS


NATALIE LOGAN Chemistry Major, Class of 2011 United States Naval Academy


Natalie leads the Midshipmen Black Studies Club and the Benjamin Banneker Society of Tutors at the Naval Academy.


Under her leadership, she and her peers helped over 40 high schoolers to prepare for and pass their finals. Natalie also sup- ports other young people in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County with mentoring, tutoring and a can-do attitude.


BRIANNA MERKERSON Industrial and Systems Engineering Major University of Alabama, Huntsville


Brianna served as president of the UA Huntsville NSBE chapter. Under her lead- ership the organization grew and flour- ished. Her leadership abilities were further confirmed by her election to the Regional III Executive Board. She first served as membership chair and then as vice chair. Brianna graduated in December 2010.


TIA TABORS Chemical Engineering Major, Class of 2011 The University of Tennessee-Knoxville


Tia is active in NSBE, the Tennes- see Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation program, and the College of Engineering Cooperative Education Am- bassadors program. She volunteers time to answer questions on co-op and internship opportunities for beginning students. She also assists in the hosting of student-led professional development sessions in resume building, mock job interviews and social networking.
