Reems Creek

Karpen Fields scheduled to reopen in spring

Karpen Soccer Fields and park on

Reems Creek Road has been closed for renovations and will reopen in spring 2011. Te entire park has been raised

and graded and a drainage system was installed under the fields. New sod was put in place on the soccer

fields. In addition to the field im- provements, the parking area has been expanded and a new walking path now circles the fields. Grass seed has been sown on the affected areas that were not covered in sod. Te park improvements are com- plete but the park will remain closed

until spring to allow the newly laid sod and recently sown grass seed to establish and take root. For more information on these

improvements, contact Buncombe County Parks, Greenways and Rec- reation Services at 250-4260 or go to buncombecounty.org/parks.

LED lights make Christmas green Tis holiday season use LED Christmas lights to

give your tree or house a clean, modern, and trendy look that is also energy efficient. LED Christmas lights typically use between 80-90 percent less elec- tricity than standard bulbs and come in most shapes and colors. Other green tips for the winter season include having

your home audited for home energy. It will help find the most cost effective ways to improve your home’s

comfort and lower bills. For those with a fireplace or wood stove, do not for-

get to close the damper when not in use. Tis special to the Tribune. Editor’s note: For more on green building prac-

tices, contact the Western North Carolina Green Building Council at 254-1995 or go to wncgbc.com.
