Local student tops pumpkins sales again
By Robin Wilson For the second year in a row,
third-grader Mason Rickard has been the top fundraiser at Leic- ester Elementary School for the pumpkin sale for Eblen Charities. “I like to help others because
they are less fortunate than I am,” said Rickard. Te Eblen-Kimmel Charities is
a non-profit organization whose outreach extends throughout the counties of Western North Caro- lina and through its numerous programs has helped thousands upon thousands of families each year with medical and emergency assistance. Tis year Rickard bought 179
Eblen pumpkins and raised $290. Last year he bought 249 pump- kins. Over the two years, Rickard has donated $428 of his own mon- ey to the Eblen charities. When Rickard isn’t in school,

With cold weather come new dangers to your pet including antifi eeze, se- vere weather, and the holiday season. Antifreeze has a very sweet taste but it does not take much to do irreversible harm to your pet. No pet should be left outdoors without refuge from the cold wind and weather. Around this time of year we are preparing for the holiday season. Your pet has access to things that can cause seri- ous problems when ingested such as chocolate, tinsel for your Christmas tree, and Poinsettias. For more infor- mation contact your veterinarian.
