OLLOWING a frivolous festive sea- son, more than a few of us will be


pinching our pockets for the start of the year. However, there are ways of getting back in control of your finances after the Christmas indulgences. Draw up a sensible monthly budget for your New Year spending. Make a list of all of your necessary monthly payments and expendi- tures and make sure they are covered by your monthly income. Have one primary credit card and use it only


for emergencies or major necessities. Put your credit card away in a safe place, not available for everyday use. Also cut up store cards – these carry very high rates of inter- est. With the credit card safely tucked away it is also time to cut down on luxuries and un- necessary expenses. It may sound obvious, but small things like bringing lunch to work rather than eating out, or using your mobile phone fewer times can make a definite dif- ference towards cutting outgoings.
