The award for Best Licentiateship of 2010 went to Lindsey Brooker, a young college trained photographer who is part of the team at Ray Lowe Studios in Cheshunt. She is also Kodak Portrait Photographer of the Year 2010.

T

he best Licentiate submis- sion of the year, as singled out by the qualifications committee for mention at the annual awards, is usually one which shows the potential for Associateship in the near future. Lindsey Brooker has the benefit of working for Ray Lowe HonFMPA, who has more than a good reputation for training and mentoring photographers entirely unconnected with his business. But she was already a

proficient social photographer when she came to Ray’s studio. “My first interest began when I was studying for an HND in Art & Design, and de- cided to specialise in photogra- phy for the final year. I decided to continue and get my BA Hons degree.

“I worked for Venture Studios in Watford for five years, leaving the company as Style Director. This job involved training photographers, quality

assessment and control, crea- tive assessment and managing weekly meetings. My team be- came one of the most success- ful in images selected for press and PR in the North London and Herts region.

“I worked in the studio as both photographer and lab retoucher, and studied for their in-house diploma course. I did well in their print competitions which I won for three years consecutively. But after five

years, I decided to move on; I had learned all I could from them, and there was no in- studio training for myself.” This continued development was part of the appeal of a move to Ray’s studio for Lynd- sey. All the images shown here are from two model portfolio sessions. Here Licentiateship also contained other commis- sions but these make a fine co-ordinated set.
