It’s an approach which has given Mike’s photography legs. His clients are having a ball, and he’s picked it up and run with it. A picture can look like fun but still be deeply moving. That blue ankle-band on the slim ankle of an Army bride was worn to honour her husband’s fallen comrades. How it has been shown – with the almost abstract setting and extreme viewpoint – contrasts strikingly with the image a lesser photographer might take if asked. These pictures are not the result of idle thoughts; in the week we went to press, Dearden Studios was about to handle 25 makeover and fashion-lifestyle portrait sessions. The village high street studio was getting a new display too – to show off his winning image as UK Contemporary Wedding Photographer of the Year and Master Photographer of the Year.
