HEALTH & FITNESS

many of us I struggle to find any time to keep as fit

and healthy as I’d like, and I’m not averse to self-deception as to why I’ve done less exercise than I should.

I met with Sarah Donohue who has won and placed many times in the American Women’s Tri Fitness (WTF), who is crusading for all women to reap the rewards of exercise. She put me through a routine that lasted less than an hour, and felt exceptionally hard work at the time. But the aches I endured for the next four days proved just how much could be achieved in such a short intense workout.

secret is plyometrics and heavy weights. Sarah is evangelical about the benefits of being fit and healthy, with the added payback of strong bones, raised endorphin levels, improved self-esteem, and increased muscle mass that also raises your metabolic rate. What is the downside?

Sarah put me through my paces at the David Lloyd Centre in Kidbrooke, with a really friendly feel, and encouraging staff.

the veterans marching in Whitehall at this year’s Remembrance Sunday march will be SE9’s Alan Tizzard, chair of the National Service Veterans Alliance.

The Alliance is campaigning for recognition for the more than two million people who were conscripted to undertake national service between 1945 and 1963.

Alan, of Kingsground, joins members of the Alliance who now march along Whitehall in their own right as National Servicemen.

The Alliance is lobbying for the Servicemen, some of whom did duty for more than three years full time, to be granted a medal in recognition of their sacrifice.
