New principal at home at Barnardsville Elementary
By Marilyn Payne Heidi Allison is almost back at
home in her role as the new prin- cipal of Barnardsville Elementary School. Te school is the closest job to her home, both geographically and figuratively. Allison knew she wanted to work
in schools from an early age because of inspirational elementary schools teachers and a family tradition of being involved in schools. Te family involvement that Alli-
son’s family shares with school sys- tems is similar to the environment the Allison has already found in her new role. “I’ve been impressed most with
the teachers and how well they know not only the children but also the backgrounds of them, and their families as well,” Allison said. “A lot of our teachers and staff live in the community with the children. Tey can really appreciate the values of the families and understand the

backgrounds.” “I’ve already heard stories of
teachers offering to go into the home and help tutor students there, or work out transportation if it’s needed,” she said. “Tey tend to truly know a lot about each student and deeply want the best for every single one on a personal level. At the other schools I’ve been at, some of the teachers will know some of the students and their families on a close level, but here a lot of the teachers know almost all of the stu- dents, their families and the specific academic needs.” At her previous BCS jobs, Al-

challenge,” she said. “I’ve had the experience of working with very or- ganized, inspirational leaders, so I know there will be challenges, but I’m looking forward to dealing with
those in the right way. I feel that I have a good grasp on what the prin- cipal role is.” As part of the new role, Allison
already has one specific goal in mind that she feels will make a dis- tinct impact. “I want to know every single stu-
dent by name. Tat’s my first goal,” she said. “If a student knows that the principal of their school knows their name and says hello to them each morning, I feel like they un- derstand how valued they are. So I really want to be able to do that.” Parent involvement is important
to the students, teachers and school as a whole and Allison brags of a strong PTO group who are excited about the school’s fall festival fund- raiser that will take place in Sep- tember. “I’m excited about it overall,”
she said. “I definitely look forward to meeting all the families. I en- courage them to come introduce themselves and definitely come to me with and questions or concerns they may have. I’ll be seeing them in the car rider line but my office is always open to them as well.”
