Hampton, North Buncombe High School’s new assistant principal. After spending her undergraduate
and graduate years at Appalachian State University, she has been look- ing for a return trip to the peaks she called home for years. When a spot opened up at North
Buncombe, she pounced. And her enthusiasm for her new role is pal- pable. “I waited patiently and here I
am,” she said. Hampton comes to North Bun-
combe after several years with Car- roll Middle School in Raleigh. As she settles into her new adminis- trative role where she will oversee transportation among her other duties, she is already getting good vibes from the BlackHawk com- munity. “I’m just in awe,” she said. “Tis is a really good place to be.”
Kay Hampton has a mountain view from her office window.
