Robert Mitchell talks to a customer.
By Marilyn Payne Sunday (Aug. 8) marks the 16th
anniversary of the business that sits
at 1 S. Main St. in Weaverville. Art Accents, a frame shop and art gal- lery is owned and operated by Robert and Carla Mitchell, opened its doors shortly after the Mitchell’s daughter was born. “I’d been doing art shows, and

starting to appear in WNC as they do every spring. Besides being bothersome by attach- ing to us and to our pet’s skin and feeding on blood, they also represent a real and potential- ly life-threatening health risk. Ticks can infect people and pets with several different serious diseases. The most common of these diseases in our region is Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (RMSF). RMSF causes a fever, lethargy, pain and many other possible symptoms. RMSF is potentially fatal but is quite treatable if caught early and is preventable through avoiding tick bites. The best way to protect your dog or cat from ticks and diseases they carry is to decrease their chances of being bit by using products such as Frontline. Be aware that there are many products out there that claim to offer tick protection but are not particularly effective and may not be safe, especially for cats. Ask your veterinarian for advice on the right protection for your pet.

she’d been matting and framing things, so we just combined those two things into one shop and settled down,” Robert said. “Business has grown healthy here. Of course we were affected by the recession, but it’s started growing again. If we can be any indicator of a turnaround, we’d love to be.” As far as the anniversary is con-
cerned, the couple hasn’t set out any specific plans to celebrate. Te open- ing day of the business also falls on Robert’s birthday and Carla said the only way she remembers what day it “is because we opened up on his birthday. It’s 8/8, but I still only know what day we opened because we were celebrating his birthday, too.” “I think it’s pretty much just, ‘Hey,
we’re still here,’ and we’re happy with it,” Robert said. Art Accents offers local art as well
custom framing and matting and can be reached at 658-9133 or online through its Web site at art-accents. com.
Caught in first gear, car parts stockwoman Darla Frye’s hapless life takes a new turn mid-race when she finds new friends in pit row and has a visit from the spirit of Dale Earnhardt! This comedy about racing & romance, lug nuts & life will thrill even those who don’t know how to change a tire. It’s the bumps in the road that make the trip worthwhile. RATED PG-13
