‘Tradin’ Paint’ to close SART season

Te Southern Appalachian

Repertory Teatre (SART) will close its 36th season with “Tradin’ Paint,” a spirited comedy about NASCAR written by Catherine Bush and directed by SART’s Bill Gregg, who is in his 10th year as the group’s artistic director. Te story is set a hair’s breadth

away from the Bristol Motor Speedway in Virginia in a small town where the sound of tires on a racetrack and the revving of en- gines pulses in the veins of each native. In the midst of the races, eight unlikely lives collide and spiral on unexpected paths. “Tra- din’ Paint” promises to delight NASCAR fans as well as those of us new to the sport’s passion. “Tradin’ Paint” boasts a cast of

staples of SART actors plus new faces. Among the familar faces are Chris Allison, who returns to SART for his 12th season; Re- becca Phippard, who returns after an eight-year hiatus; and Michael Mattison, who first appeared at SART in 1984.

Produced by Dr. Connie Buck-

ner & Jack Davis and Johnson, Price & Sprinkle PA, “Tradin’ Paint” is rated PG-13 and began Wednesday (Aug. 4) and contin- ues through Aug. 22. An open- ing night reception is planned for Tursday (Aug. 5). All performances are held at

the historic Owen Teatre on the campus of Mars Hill College. Te purchase of tickets is avail- able by calling the SART box of- fice at 828-689-1239 or visiting sartplays.org. Additional group discounts are offered. Individual tickets run $10-$30 depending on the performance. Student and senior-adult discounts are offered as group rates. Te Layden Family Foundation
