Mac’s Lift Gate Inc. has been a family owned business since its creation in 1957. Based in Long Beach, California, we have been manufacturing lifts for more than 50 years for the commercial and residential market. The first lift designed by our founder Allen “Al Mac” MacDonald was a cable platform lift. Dubbed the “Mini Mac”, this hand cranked lift was capable of lifting 600 lbs. and was designed for the back of pickups. That’s right … the first com‐ mercial tailgate platform lift is born. Selling hundreds of these lifts to gar‐ deners, appliance repairers and movers, vending machine and video game oper‐ ators this lift was new, inexpensive and durable. Something we still manufac‐ ture our lifts with in mind today. With such an innovative product we quickly started gaining notoriety. It was not long before we were approached and asked to help with a special case. The television series “Ironsides”, star‐ ring Raymond Burr required filming in a


remote area not easily accessible for one person on their set. You see this person was wheelchair bound and there was no way to get them into a vehicle, secure them and get them out at the offsite location. Mac’s Lift Gate Inc. solved that problem. With some


more innovative and ground breaking engineering, a wheelchair lift and tie down system were created for a full sized Dodge van. This lead to many years of manufacturing the Mac WHV Wheelchair Lift and Mac Manual Tie Down System, also the first products of
