Faith & Globalisation Programme Durham University Director
Dr Joanildo Burity is the St Quinton Director of the Faith and Globalisation Programme. He is a Brazilian political scientist and holds a PhD from Essex University (1995).
His research focuses on and explores different expressions and dimensions of the link between religion and politics. Globalisation has been part of his interest and work for over 15 years, generating publication and teaching. His interests also include Latin American social and political movements; civil society and citizens’ participation; and poststructuralist political theory (particularly in relation to issues of identity, culture, ethics, and democratisation).
He was a Fulbright Junior Scholar at the University of Texas-Austin, USA (1989), Visiting Research Associate at the Centre for the Study of Democracy at the University of Westminster, UK (2002-2003), and Director of the Social Research Institute at the Joaquim Nabuco Foundation, Brazil (2005-2008), where he is also a Senior Researcher.
