Durham is one of the top 100 universities in the world and ranks as the 25th for the quality of and demand for its graduates. It is also ranked as 50 in the world in Arts & Humanities and Social Sciences subject areas. It is the fourth best university in the UK according to the Complete University Guide (2010/2011), and featured sixth in the Times Good University Guide (2010/2011).


The 2011 National Student Survey has placed the university above the national average, at 87 per cent of student satisfaction with the quality of their courses. Finally, it is one of only a handful of universities to live, work and conserve a World Heritage Site (UNESCO).


The co-hosting departments of the Faith and Globalisation Programme have also scored very high in these rankings, the Department of Theology and Religion being the third best in the UK, and the School of Government and International Affairs coming ninth (seventh in the Guardian League Table). Both departments have also been very well positioned in the last Research Assessment Exercise (2008): Theology and Religion ranked first among similar departments in the country, with Government and International Affairs ranking twelfth for world-leading and international excellence in research.
