NEWS NWAA builds relationships

at Farnborough The North West Aerospace Alliance is building relationships with industry organisations in at least eight countries following the Farnborough Airshow. During the event there were visits made to the NWAA

stand from eight delegations made up of companies and cluster organisations from Australia, Brazil, China, India, Italy, Mexico, Canada and the United States. During the event, the NWAA also announced the signing of

a memorandum of understanding with Aéro Montréal, its sister organisation in Canada, which will see the two cluster groups working closely together. “It’s exciting to see the work of the NWAA being recognised

by aerospace sectors overseas in this way,” said chief executive, Martin Wright. “The work we are doing in improving and developing the supply chain in the North West through our ASCE programme translates very well to our foreign counterparts, and we had some great discussions with a number

of delegates at the show.” www.aerospace.co.uk

Government urged to support balanced economy

Local MP Gordon Henderson visited Aeromet International in Sittingbourne, Kent, recently and cited the company as an exemplary in helping the UK move towards a more balanced economy. The visit, organised by EEF, which represents manufacturers, highlighted the way in which companies such as Aeromet is able to lead the world through research and development, capital investment and manufacturing excellence. Aeromet’s chief executive Jeff Smith was keen to hear how

his company can best communicate with the incoming Local Enterprise Partnerships now that Regional Development Agencies are being phased out. “Having open dialogue directly with local and central

government through trade associations, such as EEF and A|D|S will ensure that high value manufacturing in the South East receives the support it needs,” he said. “With the right support, manufacturing in the UK will continue to provide growth, employment and value to both local and national economies.” Henderson said he was delighted for the opportunity

to discuss some of the key issues currently of concern to manufacturers: “Particularly as it is the stated intention of government to move towards a more balanced economy. Aeromet demonstrates how it is possible for local companies to be successful on the world stage through a culture of best practice, innovation and technical excellence.” www.aeromet.co.uk
