LAP wins A350 XWB order

LAP Laser has announced that it has been commissioned by Airbus to provide 220 laser projection systems. The company won the order in a worldwide tender process against competitors from Germany, Canada and the USA and has now become a strategic partner to the OEM. Airbus will use the laser projectors in the manufacture of

carbon fibre components for wing, fuselage and tail units of the new Airbus A350 XWB to further optimise the efficiency of production. During the next three years, Airbus will install the laser

projectors at production facilities in Germany, Spain and France, with the first projectors ready for shipment to the Aerolia works in Meaulte, France. www.lap-laser.com

Helitech sharpens innovation focus

Cutting edge technology that is helping today’s helicopter pilots do their jobs more effectively, more safely and with greater ease will be on show during this year’s Helitech, which takes place at Airport Cascais, near Estoril in Portugal from 5-7 October. “The helicopter industry has a genuine

sense of community so it’s unsurprising that so much attention is devoted to devising new equipment and technologies that help pilots to perform their roles more effectively while also keeping safety to the fore,” stated Helitech’s exhibition director, Sue Bradshaw. “Our conference this year also has a strong safety element running through the aerial firefighting and training streams and we’re looking forward to hearing

updates in these areas from our speakers.” www.helitechevents.com

To compress the time and improve the accuracy of assembly development for its commercial aircraft programmes, Vistagy has announced that Bombardier Aerospace has purchased its SyncroFIT software. Beginning with the CSeries wing, Bombardier is using SyncroFIT to define and manage joints and interfaces between parts within complex assemblies, automate tedious calculations, validate design rules and produce bills of materials. “Vistagy’s expertise in the aerospace industry is reflected

in the capabilities of SyncroFIT,” said Nick Perkins, director of advanced product development at Bombardier Aerospace. “SyncroFIT allows us to capture and leverage design information more completely, thereby contributing to efficiency throughout the entire aircraft development process.” The purchase of SyncroFIT follows closely on Bombardier’s decision to standardise on Vistagy’s FiberSIM software for all

of its composite aircraft. www.vistagy.com

Mazak and Sandvik form seminar partnership

From 6-7 October, Yamazaki Mazak and Sandvik Coromant will be co-hosting a seminar event that will show manufacturers the fastest and most productive methods to machine parts for aerospace applications using the latest metalcutting technologies and techniques. Taking place at Mazak’s new European Technology Centre

in Worcester, the event themed ‘helping your business take off’ will explain how to maximise productivity with the right combination of advanced machine tools and the latest cutting tools.

“These demonstrations are just a few of the vast number of solutions that Mazak and Sandvik Coromant offer to aerospace manufacturers,” said Tony Saunders, Yamazaki Mazak sales director. “Whether they are a subcontractor engaged occasionally in aerospace applications or a large OEM, our customers demand high productivity, accuracy and reliability, and at this event we will show them how to achieve this.” www.mazak.eu
