Apart from a good selection of pubs with nice beers in Dawlish the highlights on the trail are: ‘The Ship’ or ‘Anchor’ at Cockwood, The Turf Locks Hotel on the Exeter ship canal and the Double Locks Hotel going towards the Exeter Canal Quay area.


As well as this you can take the ferry from Starcross to Exmouth or the pedestrian ferry (that will take a bike) across the Exeter Canal


to visit the many watering holes in Topsham.


Most of the Exe trail is along an RSPB reserve and of particular interest are the Herons in the evening looking for their supper. The birds of prey gliding over the Exminster Marshes.


Even those of us who are not avid ‘twitchers’ cannot fail to be moved by the majestic movements of such beautiful birds.


Don’t forget to


explore some of those country roads at the back of Dawlish and for the really fit, try riding to the cycle park at the top of Haldon Hill.


Too much to do in one day - don’t worry hire a bike for the week and do it all at your own pace, but whatever you do - enjoy!
