Weaverville Hydro print accentuates rifles, car interiors
By Matt Tate Almost any wood, plastic or metal
surface can be transformed from a plain everyday item to a customized work of art with a little help from By- ron Silvers at Carolina Hydro Print. Located in Weaverville, Hydro
Print offers the latest in water trans- fer printing services. Water transfer printing is an innovative technique used to apply patterns and designs to everything from the dashboards of car interiors to hunting rifles. Te unique process begins when
the surface of an object is sanded, primed and painted a color that will maximize the appeal of the final
print. Next, one of dozens of patterns ranging from floral prints to camou- flage is selected. Te print is then cut from a roll
that has been kept at a cool tempera- ture with low humidity exposure to ensure it is in prime condition. A chemical coats the print, dissolving the film and leaving only the ink be- hind. Te object is then dipped into the ink, which is allowed to sink into the paint, ensuring a long lasting re- sult.
Te last step is to coat the object
with an automotive clear coat, much like the final step of painting a car, Silvers said. For more information, go to caroli-
