tractor-trailer driver said he briefly lost consciousness while driving, leading to a crash Monday (June 14) in a Weaverville Highway ditch. Statesville resident Bradley Clan-
ton told Woodfin police he became ill and blacked out while driving his truck for Merchant Distributors, Inc., a Hickory-based company, around 7 am Monday near Baird Cove Road. Clanton was traveling north at ap- proximately 45 miles per hour when he became sick and his truck veered
to the right, coming to rest in a deep ditch. Police did not charge Clanton, who
was unharmed. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. Traffic was delayed or slowed for several hours Monday morning as

as we can with what we have,” Woodfin Town Administrator Jason Young said. Some of the expenses sched-
uled for this year are a new pub- lic works employee, a 2 percent pay increase for town employees scheduled for January 2011, up
to 13 new laptop computers for the police department and a new de-icer and sander for the public works department. Te town has also set aside
$100,000 on potential debt ser- vice payments on a new public works facility. Te town hopes to begin development on a new facility this year. Te depart- ment is currently housed in the basement of the community center. Te police department’s
budget for this year is set to be $1,187,636, environmen- tal services are $553,634 and administrative costs would be $463,304. Top revenues are scheduled to
be $1.69 million in ad valorem taxes, $450,000 in sales taxes and $230,000 in utility fran- chise taxes. Te Woodfin Board of Alder- men will approve the budget
