Luther Burnette Weaverville – Luther Burnette,
age 92, of Highland Streer, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010. Mr. Burnette was born May
17, 1918, in Buncombe County where he had lived all of his life. He retired from American Enka after 39 years of service. Luther loved his cattle and farming. He was a son of the late John C. and Lillie Sheppard Burnette. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Wilson Bur- nette who died in 1992, and his daughter, Judy Warren. Surviving are his sons, D.L.
Burnette and wife Harriet, Jerry L. Burnette and wife Ja- net, Steve Burnette and wife Cynthia, all of Weaverville; 6 grandchildren, Terry and Kevin Burnette, Joan Goode, Jeryl Sloan, Keith Warren, Tena Gen- try; 12 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Mr. Burnette’s funeral service
was held at 11 am on Friday, June 11, 2010, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Mer- rimon Ave., Weaverville. Burial was in West Memorial Park. The family received friends
from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. At other times, the family was
at the home of D.L. and Harriet Burnette, 96 Church St., Weav- erville, NC 28787. Flowers were acceptable and

Dennis D. Franklin Alexander – Dennis D. Frank-
lin, 59 of 40 Snelson Road died Friday, June 11, 2010. Dennis was born Jan. 5, 1951
in Buncombe County where he had lived all of his life. He loved to grow a vegetable garden and
gave his bounty to anyone who wanted it. He was formerly em- ployed at Buck Stove for sev- eral years and was a veteran of the US Army serving during Vietnam. Dennis was the son of Joseph and Louise DeBruhl Franklin of Alexander. Surviving in addition to his
parents are his wife of 37 years, Sandy Silvers Franklin; son Dustin Dean Franklin of the home; sister Shelia Marsh and husband Rick of Alexander; brothers, Ray Franklin and wife Janice and Jeff Franklin and wife Sherie all of Alexander and Steve Franklin and wife Shirley of Weaverville. The funeral service was held
at 2:30 pm on Monday, June 14, 2010, in Morgan Hill Bap- tist Church, of which he was a member, with the Rev. Kev- in Garner and the Rev. Larry Sprouse officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family received friends
from 3 pm to 5 pm on Sunday, June 13, 2010, at West Funer- al Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville where the body
remained until placed in the church one hour prior to the funeral. At other times the family was

Harry D. Bruce Weaverville – Harry D. Bruce,
age 82, of Weaverville died at his home after a short illness on Monday, June 14, 2010. Mr. Bruce was born Aug. 15,
1927, in Buncombe County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He was the son of the late William A. and Lizzie Gentry Bruce. In ad- dition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, who died in 2003. Surviving are his daughter
Dolores Brown (Daryl) of New- berry, SC; son Donald E. Bruce (Donna) of Swannanoa; sister Lib Langford of Weaverville; brother Bill Bruce of Leices- ter; grandchildren, Drew Brown (Lisa), Jordan Bruce, and Han- nah Bruce; and great grandson Ethan Brown. Mr. Bruce’s funeral service
will be held at 10 am on Thurs- day, June 17, 2010, at Morgan Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kevin Garner and the Rev. Mike Siemens officiating. Burial will be in Morgan Hill
Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends
from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at West Funer- al Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, where the body will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to the service. At other times the family will
