Summer Stage camp teaches confidence, problem solving

First Stage Youth Teater is of-

fering its “Summer Stage” drama day camp for the 10th year this summer, with week-long sessions running June 21-July 24 in Spring Creek and Mars Hill. Camps are offered to students ages eight years old and up, in two different age di- visions, and will be taught by Todd Weakley. “I think the camp is wonderful

because it provides every student with the chance to perform and develop skills for creative problem solving,” Weakley said. “Teatre is all about ensemble. As we work

together we gain understanding, insight, and courage. I hope the students will understand that all challenges can be surmounted when we work together. It is creative and pragmatic at the same time.” While the focus of the camp ses-

sions for ages 8-12 is “Te Magic of Myth” and the 12 years old and older session will investigate De- vised Teater, campers of all ages will be taught life-applicable les- sons as well. “I teach because I want to help

others develop self confidence and courage,” Weakley said. “I’m very

excited to have the students dis- cover their creative potential, their creative voice. I’m waiting for that light bulb to go off that tells the camper that they are in charge of their own learning.” First Stage Youth Teater wel-

comes students new to theater and those who “who already know that they like to be onstage.” Sessions are $75 each and scholarships are also available. For more information call Mary Colvin at 689-3342 or go to firststageyouththeatre.com.
