Commentary ‘As the Charter Turns’ Author’s note: Tis commentary
should be read in a “B” movie narrator’s voice
Now more in the continuing saga
of “As the Charter Turns.” When we last saw our victim of
Charter’s inept customer service, the victim Clint Parker had heard
Clint Parker
from Charter Communications for the first time in more than six weeks concerning the bungling of his com- pany’s – Te Weaverville Tribune/Le- icester Leader – Internet and phone service move to a new location. Eric, a friendly sounding repre-
sentative of Charter, called to offer his apology at his company’s failures and lack of customer service and as- sured Clint that he would take care of the constant billing for services never received.
and yet again attempt to straight out Charter’s mess? Will Charter ever release the Weaverville Tri- bune/Leicester Leader’s phone and fax number that does not belong to them? Will Charter ever figure out what they’re doing and how to serve their customers right? Stay tuned for the next install-
ment of “As the Charter Turns.” It would be funny, if it wasn’t so
sad.

Resident organizes local ADDY awards
A year ago, Weaverville resident
Brenda Murphree had the dream of creating a local chapter of the American Advertising Federation. She had started her own agency, Clearpoint Marketing Com- munications, Inc. back in 2003, and through the years saw how the region had a very strong and growing community of talented marketing and promotion profes- sionals. Now Murphree is the president
of the Asheville chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAFA) she created, and the ac- tive group just marked another first. Te AAFA celebrated its premiere Asheville ADDY Awards
Celebration on Feb. 20. Nearly 100 entries vied to be considered the best of the best in categories ranging from National TV to Ad- vertising for the Arts & Sciences to Public Service. Te Asheville ADDYs honored
individuals and agencies in West- ern North Carolina for advertising excellence. Winners are eligible to progress to the next stage of this three-tiered competition, which culminates in the prestigious na- tional ADDY Awards presented by the American Advertising Fed- eration at its national conference in June. Connie Aridas of Connie Ari- das Creative took home “Best in
Show” honors and a Gold ADDY for her “Here for You” campaign for Carolina Alliance Bank. She also won a Gold ADDY for her “Ready for Tomorrow” campaign for Spartanburg Day School. WNC Aids Project won both
the Mosaic ADDY and a Gold ADDY for the “I Need U2 Know Anti-Stigma Campaign” in the Public Service Mixed Media cat- egory. Te Mosaic award recog- nizes advertising that promotes diversity and issues related to multiculturalism. A complete list of winners can
be found at

A week after this conversation,
Clint received yet two more bills. Clint, distraught with the contin- ued inept handling of his account, turned to writing this cheesy com- mentary in order to blow off his frustration with Charter service or should he say the lack there of. What will happen next?

Our government is broken
Te Buncombe County Repub-
lican Party has announced precinct meetings on March 6, 13 & 20 and County Convention on March 27th. (ad in Te Tribune February
25 - March 3.) Te ad states, “Tired of special interests controlling Wash- ington and Raleigh? Disappointed in politicians who say one thing and do another? Worried that our govern- ment might never get back on track? We need YOU to help fix it.” SAY WHAT?? Te Republican Party had control of the President
and Congress for eight years and see where that led us - into the toilet!! You must be joking if you think this country wants another repeat of the Bush/Cheney/GOP Congressional disaster!
