Edna Ballard Jamerson Mars Hill - Edna Ballard Jamerson,
J. Paul Metcalf Mars Hill - J. Paul Metcalf, 90, of
4564 Paint Fork Road, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Madison Manor Nursing Center. He was a na- tive and lifelong resident of Madison County and the son of the late Kenny and Zerilda Baird Metcalf. He was also preceded in death by his wife Ag- nes Wallin Metcalf, infant son Dwight Metcalf and twin brother Ralph Met- calf. Paul was a member and Deacon at Paint Gap Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at
2 pm on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Paint Gap Baptist Church. The Rev. Marty Parrott and the Rev. Cecil Hopps will officiate. Burial will fol- low in the Tildon Metcalf Cemetery. Charles Woody Mars Hill - Charles Woody, 88, of
180 Fox Road, passed away Satur- day, March 6, 2010 at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resi- dent of Madison County and a son
of the late Charlie and Loshia Briggs Woody. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Eula Metcalf, Mary Ow- ens and Ethie Buckner; brothers, Ver- non Woody, Jim Edd Woody and Bob Stockton; and grandchildren, Eddie Woody and Susie Woody. Charles was a member of Upper Laurel Bap- tist Church and was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in WWII, was a member of Bald Creek Masonic Lodge 397 AF&AM and a member of the VFW. He also had worked at Kell- wood Manufacturing for 34 years. Surviving are his wife Genell Mc-

80, of 453 U.S. Hwy 19, Mars Hill, went to her heavenly home March 8, 2010, after an extended illness. She was born Jan. 9, 1930, in Madison County where she lived most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Affie and Lear English Ballard. She graduated from Mars Hill High School in 1949. She received a diploma in Education Ministries from the Southern Baptist Seminary Extension Program in April 1981. She was a member of Upper Laurel Baptist Church and united with Skyland First Baptist Church when she lived on Royal Pines Drive in South Buncombe. She used her gift of teaching that God gave her to be an active Sunday school teacher until her illness. She was a homemaker, excellent seamstress and enjoyed making quilts by hand. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her price was far above rubies. (Prov. 3:15) KJV. In ad- dition to her parents she is preceded in death by infant son Allen Lane; two sisters, Carolyn Ballard and Ava Lee Carter and brother Raleigh Ballard. She is survived by her husband of
60 years, Van D. Jamerson; daugh- ter Janice Cody (Myron) of Mars Hill; three sons, Gary Jamerson (Marie) of Mars Hill, Everette Jameson (Marga- ret) of Fletcher and Warren Jamerson (Myra) of Cartersville, Ga.; sister Jenell Fender of Mars Hill; brother Wade Bal- lard of Lexington, Ky.; five grandsons, Jonathan Cody (Sarah), Desmond (Kim), Brian (Amy), Neil and Eric Jam- erson; and five great-grandchildren, Lucas and Case Cody, Nicholas, Al- yssa and Cade Jamerson. Her children arise up and call
her blessed; her husband also, he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

Margaret Mclean Roberts Weaverville – Margaret McLean
Roberts, age 82 of 181 Murphy Hill Road died Saturday, March 6, 2010. Mrs. Roberts was born Sept. 22,
1927, in Buncombe County where she had lived most of her life. She retired from Southern Bell after 40
plus years of service. Margaret was a member of Brittain’s Cove Presbyteri- an Church and she loved to quilt. Her mother, Susanna Frady McLean died when she was 16. Her father, Allison McLean later married Hazel Harron McLean, they are both deceased. In addition to her parents she was pre- ceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Richard R. “Dick” Roberts who died in 2007. Surviving are her sister, Betty M.
Arrowood of Weaverville; brother, Edwin Ray McLean of Washington, DC; special nieces Debbie Desloge and Karen Amrhein and several other nieces and nephews. Mrs. Roberts’ funeral service was
held at 11 am Tuesday, March 9, 2010 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville with Rev. George Hutchins officiating. Burial was in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family received friends from 10

Richard Bruce Mckinney Barnardsville – Richard Bruce
McKinney, age 50, of 882 North Fork Road, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 2, 2010. Bruce was born Saturday, Jan. 16,
1960, in Buncombe County where he had lived all of his life. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. His profession was auto paint and body work. He was a son of Betty Brig- mon McKinney of Barnardsville and the late Verdra V. McKinney. Bruce was also preceded in death by his beloved sister, Carol McKinney, and nephew, Bryan Alan Jackson. Surviving are his son, Joseph Heath
McKinney of Raleigh; sisters, Dianne and Melissa McKinney of Barnards- ville, Kathleen Jackson of Goshen, KY; and brother, Steve O. McKinney of Weaverville. He is also survived by three nephews and five nieces whom he loved and adored. He is leaving behind his special little friend and faithful dog, Carlos. He is also leaving behind the Hole in the Wall Gang and all his rowdy friends. His graveside service was held at
3 pm Sunday, March 7, 2010, in Brig- mon Family Cemetery, Barnardsville. The family received friends from 1
pm - 2 pm Sunday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaver- ville, followed by military rites at the funeral home before departing to the cemetery.
