Volunteering crucial component of cancer fight

teacher Dorothy Knight thought after seven years of giving up her time to support the local Relay For Life, she would have built up a shield of immunity. One self-examination several


years ago revealed that for the rest of her life, she would no longer just be helping other cancer vic- tims when she volunteered her time and efforts. She would also be helping herself. Knight soon came to the horri-


fying realization that she had two lumps and Stage 3 breast cancer. Tanks to good area doctors, quality health care that provided top medicines and a little luck,


Knight has been cancer free for three years. She also has a renewed perspec-


tive on the importance of Relay for Life, an annual drive that takes place throughout the coun- try and gives everyone a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remem- ber loved ones lost and fight back against the disease. “I encourage people to volunteer
