has held a piece of North Buncombe history for well over a century now. Located on the corner of Salem Church Road and Old Weaverville Highway, SUMC seeks to consistent- ly share the love and grace of God to our local community. Although the complete history of

SUMC is somewhat unclear, cited documents tell of a Methodist soci- ety meeting in the Flat Creek area as early as 1851. Further research of the Western North Carolina conference archives indicate that permission was granted to build the Salem Meeting House at Flat Creek in 1898. A build- ing date was set for 1900 and early membership roles have been found dating back to 1905. Te original steps to this ‘meeting house’ can still be seen today on the church’s existing property. Te SUMC sanctuary used in worship today was built in the late 1950s and is uniquely adorned with a variety of beautiful stain-glass win- dows, each telling connected stories of faith in the life of those who call
