Letters to the Editor

Fair for everyone Dear Editor. What’s fair for the goose should

be fair for the gander. Te Senate Health Committee

recently voted 12-11 in favor of a two-page amendment that would require all Congresspersons and Senators, their families and their staffs to enroll in any new govern- ment-run health plan. Under pro- posed legislation they are curiously exempt.

‘ABCs of Raised Bed Gardening’ Jim Daubert will lead a presenta-

tion entitled “Te ABCs of Raised Bed Gardening” at 10 am on Sat- urday (April 17) at Reems Creek Nursery in Weaverville. with Jim Daubert, on Saturday, April 17 at 10 a.m. Te nursery is located at 70 Monticello Road in Weaverville. Te two-hour presentation is free, but pre-register by calling 645- 3937.

Penland in concert Singer/songwriter Joe Penland

will be kicking off an interna- tional tour with a performance beginning at 8 pm on Saturday (April 17) at the Madison Coun- ty Arts Center in Marshall. Tickets are $10 and are avail- able by phone at 828-649-1301 or online at madisoncountyarts. com.

Tis amendment has been intro-

duced by Congressman John Flem- ing of Louisiana, a physician. If Congress forces a government-

run health plan on the American people, then Congress should have to accept the same level of health

care for themselves, their families and staffs. To do otherwise is the height of hypocrisy!

Sincerely,

Jerry Edwards Asheville, NC
