REGIONAL COMMITTEES Following the recent SRPBA Annual General Meeting, changes have now taken effect in the Regional Committees. This means that our recent round of meetings in May were the first for the year 2010-11. Ann Fraser has stepped down from the committee, giving up the role of South-East Regional Chairwoman. Special thanks go to Ann from committee members and Teresa Dougall, General Manager (Regions). Tony Stevenson has been appointed the new Chairman and he can be contacted via his details on the right.
Hilary Dunlop, Donald Noble and Henry Trotter of the South- East Committee and Robert Gladstone of the South-West Committee have completed their full six years and thus step down. Thanks to them for their time spent on the committee and the work they undertook.
SHOW SEASON Within the South East and South West, the SRPBA will be in attendance at the Border Union Show on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 July, sharing a stand with CKD Galbraith, and at Galloway Country Fair on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 August (see above), sharing a stand with Lord David Johnstone and his family. More details on these events will be e-mailed to all members soon.
IT’S SHOP LOCAL BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT The beginning of June saw the launch of a new enterprise in Galashiels that will bring a whole new dimension to shopping local when The Car Shop opened the doors of its Bank Street store. The shop is home to a unique concept in buying and selling cars and, according to industry sources, is a first in Scotland.
The shop is the brainchild of Tony Stevenson and Steve Roberts of Avatar Vehicles, who are SRPBA members. The Selkirk-based company currently serves a wide range of markets, from agriculture to construction, with all their vehicle needs.
The two noticed a gap in the market for customers looking for a new car. Buyers had two choices, the traditional showroom – with limited choice of make, or web-based sellers – which have a lack of tangible presence that is often reassuring when making a large purchase like a car. The business partners wanted to offer a third choice and, more importantly, a local choice and so The Car Shop was launched. The project was applauded by Scottish Border Council’s Planning and Economic Development Department when they were awarded a grant under the Small Business Funding Scheme.
