STIRLING LOCAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN Stirling Council is embarking on the production of a new Local Development Plan for its area. This will ultimately replace the Clackmannanshire and Stirling Structure Plan and Stirling Council Local Plan that exist at present.

The first stage in the process of preparing the Local Development Plan is the publication of a Main Issues Report, which highlights the key policy and land use changes that have occurred since the Structure Plan and Local Plan was produced. It also sets out the Council’s general proposals for future development in the area, including reasonable alternatives.

The consultation ends on

30 July. For details, visit: www.stirling.gov.uk/localdevplan

SCOTTISH GAME FAIR The Game Fair will take place at Scone Palace on Friday 2, Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 July. Entry prices are: adults £15; children (5-15) £3; under-5s free; family ticket £32. Parking is free. I will be at the SRPBA stand so please make a point of stopping and saying hello. Further details can be found at: www.scottishfair.com

SNRN RURAL TAYSIDE The Scottish National Rural Network continues to deliver its series of 20 regional events around the country. However, you would be forgiven for thinking that luck was not on the side of the Tayside event. The first event had to be postponed due to the heavy February snow and the second ran foul of a cloud of Icelandic ash. With several contributors stuck in the wrong country or continent, there may have been a problem

but for the willingness of some volunteers to step in and make the event happen.

As chairperson for the day, I

wasn’t sure what to expect, but more than 50 delegates attended the event on 23 April at the Birnam Arts Centre to hear updates on local rural funding and to listen to the stories and experiences of three inspiring projects. Further details can be found at:

HILL TRACKS EVENT, BRAEMAR

In collaboration with the Cairngorms National Park Authority and Scottish Natural Heritage, the SRPBA organised a meeting to discuss the many issues surrounding the development and maintenance of hill tracks at Braemar Village Hall on 10 May.

The event was organised for LANDBUSINESS ISSUE 36 JUNE-JULY 2010

Biodiversity, James Duncan Miller of Remony Estate hosted an event on 22 May to celebrate the breadth of biodiversity that exists on the estate.

After meeting on the south

side of Loch Tay and a short introduction to the estate, we

landowners, managers and agents and a clear call was made by those attending for the development of best practice guidance on the construction and maintenance of hill tracks.

GRAMPIAN COUNTY FAIR This year’s event was held in Aberdeenshire (Loch of Skene) on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 June. With a full programme of events, visitors were joined by the cast of Emmerdale, who were out in force raising funds for the Anthony Nolan Trust.

Events like this help us reach a wider audience and my

were treated to the sights and smells of a wildlife garden before viewing squirrel dreys and the nesting site of a barn owl. We then took the opportunity to look at some natural regeneration and a wildlife pond before taking a short stop to look at a blackgame lek site, before returning to our starting point for a well-deserved cup of tea and shortbread.

thanks go to everyone who stopped by the SRPBA marquee.
