Lancashire Hot-Shots!

LANCASHIRE football club, Kirkham and Wesham, triumphed over Lowestoft FC in the final of the FA Vase. The club, formed in the late 80s, play at Kellamergh Park, their new ground in nearby Warton. If you think that’s confusing, they will change their name to AFC Fylde for the start of the 2008-09 season. They play in the North West Counties league, eight levels below Ronaldo, Rooney and company, but have ambitious plans to reach the Conference by 2017 and the Football League by 2022. Home attendance hovers around 120 but their FA Vase run has seen crowds in excess of 1,000.

The new ground has a 200 all-seater main stand, new floodlights and a very recently installed PA system where one of the first announcements heard echoing over Warton was, “Tonight’s attendance is 136 and we have been allocated 10,000 tickets for Wembley, but we can get some more if we run out.”

Ambitious plans and a sense of humour - they should go far.
