Unsung Hero II

Not sure whether Terrain Aeration have a copyright on their ‘Unsung Heroes’ award but the town of Warrington in Cheshire have picked up on their idea and I doubt that TA will mind.

This year’s recipient of Warrington Sports Personality Unsung Hero of 2006 award, went to Eric Shaw of Warrington Town FC who play at Cantilever Park. “I’m totally shocked to be honest,” the man affectionately known as ‘Mr Warrington Town’ said. “I never thought I’d win. I’ve played for a lot of clubs and won a lot of things but this is something special because it is for my club, my town.

“I feel a bit guilty because I don’t feel as if I’ve done anything special, I’ve just done it for the love of it. It is never a chore. hard work never came in to it. When I finished playing for them I just stuck around. It could have been anyone.”

Eric’s involvement with the club goes back to the early 1960s when he played full back. He took on groundsman and kit-washing duties

Gorbi chops

We’ve had some interesting celebs pictured with Pitchcare magazine; Henry Cooper, Jasper Carrott, Gordon Banks and Nobby Stiles to name just a few. But this one takes the biscuit - the dog biscuit!

This is Gorbi, who is owned by Paul Knape, one of the groundsmen at BA Concorde Club at Heathrow. Apparently Gorbi reads every issue from cover to cover and he’s particularly keen on the articles about trees!

Let your fingers do the talking!

Fresh from the excitement of Harrogate (for him anyway) the Pitchcare Ideas Monster has, once again, been letting his fingers do the walking over his computer keyboard - in a random fashion of course - as only our Laurence can!

Bunkers are raked every day including Saturdays and Sundays.

Eric, who is secretary of the club’s dominoes team, paid tribute to his wife Betty, for her support. “That she has never minded has made it easier to do.” 70 Year old Eric’s prizes included
