overcoming cancer the integrative way C
ancer is a complex disease. Effec- tive treatment and long-range con-
trol require innovative thinking and a multifaceted, research-based approach. For decades, conventional oncology has focused on attacking cancer mainly with the help of surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. However, this approach overlooks the cancer-promoting role of the “tumor terrain,” i.e., the biochemical conditions that support the cancer and are pivotal to the disease’s malignant behavior. The Raleigh-based Carolina Center
for Integrative Medicine has the longest track record of any North Carolina based clinic for the integrative treatment of chronic diseases. Medical director John Pittman, MD, embraces cutting-edge methods for attacking the tumor directly and changing the conditions that fuel the tumor’s growth and progression. The Center’s approach includes strategies that enhance the effectiveness of conventional cancer treatments, reduce and amelio- rate toxic side effects, and bolster one’s chances of staying “in the clear.” Dr. Pittman’s clinical team has de-
veloped protocols for the treatment of a number of cancers. For example, depend- ing on the type of cancer, intravenous vitamin C treatments may be used in con- junction with other nutritional-metabolic therapies and conventional treatments. “Many people face cancer treatment with little if any guidance as to how to improve long-range remissions and quality of life,” says CCIM medical director John Pitt- man, MD. “Our goal is to provide natural therapies that complement conventional treatments, and research suggests that our approach should translate into improved survivorship—that is, not only feeling and functioning better, but hopefully living longer as well.”
The Carolina Center for Integrative Medicine is located at 4505 Fair Meadow Lane, Suite 111 in Raleigh. 919-571- 4391.
