amsung Electronics UK has appointed Graham Long as vice president of IT, UK and Ireland, following the departure of former displays division head Dominic Webb. The appointment furthers Samsung’s recent moves to merge its IT business, which now embraces the company’s displays, Note PC and print divisions.

The alignment of the three Samsung IT divisions is designed “to develop a greater synergy across the business”. It is hoped that by merging the IT businesses under Long’s direc-

Reporting directly into Mr. David SW Song, Samsung’s UK managing director, Long joins the newly formed IT team from a role in the company’s European print division, where he held the position of vice president of European printing operations.

idwich has signed a distri- bution deal with Aqualite for the new vendor’s IP66 rated weatherproof displays (see AV News, March 2010).

The Aqualite range comprises 32, 42 and 52-inch formats, with a choice of either LED or conventional backlighting. All Aqualite screens, wheth- er LED backlit or standard, are fitted with anti-reflective glass, concealed USB and SD inputs, twin digital and ana- logue tuners, and a waterproof cable entry system that makes them ideal for hospitality and signage applications. They ship with weatherproof speakers as standard.

Kim Menen, director of Aqualite, said: “This deal will undoubtedly strengthen our brand and increase awareness for a whole raft of applications. “The product is not only a simple solution for the up and coming sports calendar, but is also a digital signage revenue stream for the same clients in

averick has taken a fur- ther step in its European expansion announcing the commencement of opera- tions in the Netherlands and Belgium. This takes the total number of countries in which the distributor has a presence to five.

The Netherlands and Belgium operation is headed up by Evy Remory. He believes that the presence established by Maverick parent TechData and its associated Hotlamps business has already prepared the market for Maverick’s arrival. “We are already strong in Belgium. The Netherlands is an important country in the

European AV market. By adding experienced team members and launching the Maverick brand we will become a major force in both countries.”

Jon Sidwick, director of Maverick Europe, said that the new business operations are an important step forward in the plan to establish Maverick as the only real pan-European audiovisual specialist distribu- tor: “With Maverick operating in a total of five countries and Hotlamps in 14, we are growing into a truly pan-European busi- ness. We have seen unparalleled growth over the last year and forged strong vendor relation- ships on a European basis.”

rysm showed its Laser Phosphor Display (LPD) technology at Screen Media Expo in partnership with recent- ly appointed UK distributor PSCo. First seen at ISE earlier this year, LPD contains a laser engine that uses solid-state laser diodes to energise phos- phors on a surface emissive panel. This generates seam- less, high-resolution images for large format displays.

The phosphors emit red, green and blue colours as the modu- lating laser beams scan across the surface to create a flicker- free image without motion blur, providing high-quality images, 180-degree viewing angles and a longer life span than tradi- tional digital displays.

Prysm designed its LPD panels to be eco-friendly in manufacturing, operation and
