The Path Ahead
AS WE MOVE INTO THE FINAL WEEKS OF 2008, THERE SEEMS TO
be much hard work still to accomplish. The introspection and challenges of this past year have given each of us an opportunity to contemplate and refl ect our paths ahead. There have already been great shifts and changes on the spiritual level of consciousness, and there is a need now to make the physical changes necessary in order to be able to welcome these once they manifest into reality.
With Pluto fi nally settling in Capricorn on the 27th
November until 2024, there will be some major changes and challenges for the world to collectively face. We have already seen the start of this with major waves being created in both the economic and political worlds.
Pluto is the planet of endings and beginnings – he is
also known as the destroyer or the annihilator. Through destruction comes new beginnings and fresh starts. He is not a planet to fear though, for change is inevitable, and over the coming years, he will take us into the darkness in order to be re-born again.
It is no coincidence that on the same day Pluto steps
back into Capricorn, Uranus – the Truth Seeker moves direct. Uranus encourages us to be individuals and to express our uniqueness freely and openly. Uranus wants us to be true to ourselves, to follow our paths – our destinies.
So, we are now at a stage of preparation. There is a strong
need to de-clutter on all levels now, to carry less baggage for the journey ahead. As the days grow shorter as we move towards the Midwinter Solstice, it is a time to fi nally let go of all those things that no longer serve us – on all levels: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
On the 31st December, the mighty Saturn moves
retrograde until May 2009. Saturn is the Lord of Karma and Time, and he represents duty, tradition and responsibility in our lives. He is also the archetypal father fi gure energy. This retrograde phase marks a time of truly taking responsibility for our own lives – making our own choices, following our own intuition, and a sense of becoming more genuinely independent in connection to the choices, decisions and actions we make in life.
It is a time to heal any damage or trauma we have with our
inner father fi gure as well as our biological fathers and other father fi gures in our lives. It is a time to make peace, to let go of judgements and to feel the empowerment and freedom of guiding ourselves. This is not to say, that we will not continue to value our own fathers, but this is an inner shift, a need to be less dependent on the guidance and power of others.

As we move into 2009, we see Ceres – the Earth Mother
move retrograde on the 11th January. On the same day, Mercury also moves retrograde. Ceres represents abundance – the harvest on both a personal and physical level. Mercury is the communicator. Ceres moving retrograde represents a time of low energy and a general lack of abundance – this is often the case at this time of year anyway, after the expense and materialism of the Festive Season.
There will also be a huge build up of energy in Capricorn
and Aquarius. During January and February we see an array of planets and celestial energies coming together in these two signs – Pluto, Mars, Sun, Lilith, Juno, Jupiter, Dragon’s Head, Chiron, and Neptune. By February, most of these (excluding Pluto and Lilith) come together in Aquarius.
This marks the beginning of an interesting journey in
2009. Capricorn is an earth sign – the sign that marks the winter solstice and the darkest point of the year energetically. Capricorn is the sign of realism, of hard work and building fi rm foundations. Whereas Aquarius is the freedom seeking, bohemian humanitarian, an air sign representing the mind and creative thought.
There is a stark contrast between these two signs, but
for a while these clusters of planets in both signs mark a metaphoric stepping-stone from the dark into the light. When the planets all meet in Aquarius in February, there is a true sense of joy, optimism, expansion and creative expression. It is a time to truly stand in our own powers and to be the unique and special individuals that we are.
2009 looks set to be a year of discovery, freedom, enlightenment and joy. It is a year to follow our dreams, to let go of everything that is inessential or unnecessary. It is a year to focus, to be motivated and to allow our passion, individuality and energy to shine brightly.
Brightest Blessings,
Sarah
