An Interview with Gary Null, Ph.D.

or three decades, Gary Null has been one of the foremost advocates of alter- native medicine and natural health. He hosts a syndicated show on public radio and is an environmentalist, filmmaker, multi-award-winning journalist

and New York Times bestselling author who has written more than 90 books on nutrition, self-empowerment and public health issues. Null is also a professor of graduate sciences at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

What was the inspiration for your latest documentary on love?

I was curious about past conditioning and idealistic expectations that prevent individuals from manifesting their highest ideal. I’ve noticed that although people talk about giving and receiving unconditional love, they are more likely to act on their non-love impulses. The result is that in most relationships, love is based upon subconscious conditions and self-cherishing desires that masquerade as true love.

What would you like the outcome of this documentary to be?

I interviewed 20 of world’s leading philosophers on the subject of real love. Many are wise and revered individuals who have never been filmed before talking on this subject. I’m looking forward to the screening on May 23 in my Naples home. I’ll be interested in people’s insights, especially those individuals who have experienced love through a variety of distorted filters, often arising from personal insecurities, fears or beliefs.

What do you intend to accomplish by lecturing on homesteading and sustainability?

Progressive thinkers know that America’s lifestyle has become increasingly more unsustainable and that over the next 10 to 20 years we will be facing huge chal- lenges and threats, such as the effects of global climate change, peak oil produc- tion and diminishment of food supplies at the same time that population increases require even more food. I also believe we will see a substantial loss in our real property values, an increase in unemployment and spiraling prices, at least for any product made from petroleum.

One critical fact is clear: We will never return to the world as we have known it. Everyone will need to adapt and make critical adjustments in their lives due to increased demand for the Earth’s finite resources. We will have still have food, gas and oil, but all will be significantly more expensive and for many people, beyond their purchase range.

I will share information about how to prepare for these coming changes so the proactive person will be ahead of the learning curve. I have experience with solar and wind power, organic gardening and sprouting, which will help individu- als create a more self-sufficient environment for themselves. Assisting people and expanding their conscious choices will help offset expenses and help them main- tain an even higher quality of life.

We have been spoiled and rarely, if ever, do we ask ourselves such basic questions as, “What type of footprint are we leaving on this planet? Do I need everything I own or desire? What happens to everything when I throw it away?”

What are your plans for a health support group in Southwest Florida?

During the upcoming summer months, I will make myself available to conduct a series of practical, hands-on classes about how to be more self-sufficient and

Gary Null’s first annual health

support day takes place on May 23 at Paradise Gardens, his home in Naples. The screening of his new documentary on love will follow a lecture held from 2 to 6 p.m. in his flower garden. The event is free, but anyone attending must RSVP to 239-331-2834 or gary@garynull.com.

conscious in everything we do; how to overcome and prevent illness; and how to live a more authentic life. During the past 30 years, I have conducted dozens of similar health support groups in New York and Los Angeles and more than 30,000 people have participated in them.

Some of my closest friends who live in Naples have suggested that this area, home to many health-minded in- dividuals, could benefit from a regular health support group meeting. On all levels, the idea is that we should live a happy, healthy, creative and compas- sionate life. During the last 10 years we have seen an unparalleled move towards greed, exaggerated, exhibi- tionistic self-expression and extreme excesses. We are now like a person awakening from a coma, looking around and asking, “How in the world did we get here?”

I look forward to showing my new film to those who come to the screen- ing and to asking them if they want to participate in a health support group.
