LACONIA MUSKRATS WILL FEATURE SOME LOCAL TALENT

Baseball fever is building

for the Laconia Muskrats, the newest member of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, which will open its 42-game sea- son in June at the 1,200 seat Robbie Mills Field on Meredith Center Road. Among those playing for

the Muskrats this summer will be Derrick Sylvester, a 6 foot 6 inch tall right- handed pitcher whom many in the area are fa- miliar with from his days at Franklin High School and last summer when he pitched for the Wilkins- Smith Post 1 American Legion baseball team. Sylvester is a freshman at

Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester where he has been impres- sive in several starts this spring for the Penmen, the most recent last Mon- day when he went eight innings against Stonehill College, scattering nine hits and allowing two runs while fanning nine in a 5-2 SNHU win. In his start before that

Sylvester was the winning pitcher as SNHU downed UMass-Lowell 5-4, pitch- ing seven innings in which he allowed nine hits, three walks, struck out four and allowed four earned runs. He will be joined by many

other top college baseball players for what promises to be a fun summer for baseball in the Lakes Re- gion. Enthusiasm for the

Muskrats was evident when more than 100 peo- ple turned out for a Hot Stove get together at the Margate Resort on Satur- day, March 27, where the Muskrats unveiled mer- chandise, season ticket plans and their colorful mascot. “This is going to be great
