SOWELL from 8

When the scientists in England who were pro- moting “global warming” hysteria sent e-mails out to colleagues, urging them not to reveal certain data and not to let the fact be- come widely known that there was a freedom-of- information act in Britain, they were behaving like politicians, rather than scientists. The huge political, fi-

nancial and ideological investment of many indi- viduals and institutions in the “global warming” hysteria makes it virtu- ally impossible for many of the climate crusaders to gamble it all on a roll of the dice, which is what empiri- cal verification is. It is far safer to dogmatize and to demonize those who think otherwise. Educators who turn

schools into indoctrination centers have been going all out to propagandize a whole generation with Al Gore’s movie, “An Incon- venient Truth”-- which has in fact carried a message that has been very con- venient for Al Gore finan- cially, producing millions of dollars from his “green” activities.

Thomas Sowell is a senior fellow at the Hoover Institu- tion, Stanford University, Stanford, CA 94305. His Web site is www.tsowell. com.

ADVOCATES from 9

Listeners to the ra-

dio program continue to amaze me in their atten- tion to what is said by the host and others. During the interview with Michael Graham I mentioned two of the pioneers of talk

radio, Jerry Williams and Gene Burns, and, for

the fun of it, Alan Freed. Freed was a “Dick Clark” type, a personality in the world of rock and roll - a promoter of music. Later that day an email arrived with a picture of Allan Freed with three young ladies class of 1956. One of them - one of my most loyal listeners in southern NH! No, it’s not Kathy

Getchell.
