your plants stay healthy and strong. However, if raking proves to be too formidable a task, anoth- er trick is to cover up the leaves with a thick layer of new mulch. Mulch will help your garden look fresh and clean and can produce a similar effect to raking in terms of pre- venting leaf diseases. An important part of spring cleaning your gar- den is pruning. It’s always a good idea to wait until after the severe frosts to assess and prune your garden plants. You’ll want to prune plants that have old, diseased or broken stems or those that simply are growing wayward. A good pair of pruning shears is essen- tial to get the job done right. Spring cleaning your

garden also involves maintenance tasks such as repairing any fenc- ing around your garden area and cleaning out last year’s containers and pots. It’s a good idea to mulch any dead plants

from those old pots and compost the soil. in knowing that we have started this project. If you would like more informa- tion, you can e-mail me at this address, or you can call me at 508-824-9722. As graduates of Belknap, we have so many wonder- ful and loving memories that will never leave us. Our dedication for the Bench and Memorial will take place at our Reunion the weekend of October 22-24, 2010 in Center Harbor.

Thank you,

My reply: “Hi Gene,

I’ll be glad to include

some publicity and photos regarding your plaque, sign and bench project in my next article, which should be in the April 8th edition of the Weirs Times. I enjoyed researching my Belknap College articles. I never went to any col- lege myself, but I used to frequent Mallard’s (a beer joint on Rt.25 opposite Moultonboro Neck Road) during the 1960s. A lot of BC kids went there too. I’ve been a Wolfeboro resi- dent since 1966. Thanks for filling me in

on this project and good luck with it.

It looks to be

off to a substantial start. Mal Fuller”

with computers may visit the website that Gene listed and learn about the proposed plaque, sign and bench. For those read- ers who are computer deprived, I’ve included photos from the website along with this article. It seems like a nice gesture from the Belknap Col- lege Alumni towards the town of Center Harbor where the school was lo- cated. Perhaps you’d like to help.

Mother’s Day is coming up May 9th

. Besides the

day’s obvious significance everywhere, the date will hold special significance to the residents of Wolfe- boro. That’s because it will mark the first an- niversary of the brutal and unsolved murder of Wolfeboro resident Stacey Burns. We’ll be looking back on the lack of action in this case in upcoming Rambling Through His- tory articles. See you then.
