A-LISTS community spotlight
Football season may be coming to a close in Feb-
ruary for the pros, but for the San Diego American
Flag Football League (SDAFFL), that is when they
are just getting started! As a fitness professional in
San Diego I have always been involved in or around
athletic communities. A huge benefit of living in a
temperate climate like southern California is that
we can live active lifestyles year round. Wonderful
for us, we can always be involved in some type of
sports activity even in December when others
are stuck inside!
Recently I had the chance to speak to the
SDAFFL and find out more about their fun but very
competitive flag football league. Many people are
looking for some type of semi-organized sport
that can also be a good place to make friends,
network, or stay active and competitive. The San
Diego American Flag Football League sounds just
like that. This is a men’s league (although women
are allowed to play, it is very atypical for this league
to have women participate) and the age group
is between 19 and 40ish; however, people of any
age are welcome who are serious about playing
football. Right away I found that out. This league
is about having fun and building community, but
when it comes time to stepping on the field and
playing, they are playing to win. So if you are look-
ing for a hoity-toity walk in the park, this is not your
San Diego Flag Football league:
place. If you are athletic, energetic and looking for
a fun, team-orientated challenge, the SDAFFL may

If you have never played football or any orga-
nized sport, don’t worry. There are two clinics to
get you ready for game day. Clinic one is designed
for the novice athlete. Clinic two is for the interme-
diate and experienced.
Practice starts in February to get the players
keyed in for the beginning of the regular season
that starts in March and ends in May with one post
season championship game.
The SDAFFL is not solely about the business
of winning. There is a very strong social aspect
of this league that builds on the strengths of the
individuals and the community in which it plays.
Many organizations and businesses in and around
the San Diego area are involved in the league by
sponsoring various functions for the players to go
out to and have fun and socialize.
If you are looking for the physical challenge and
camaraderie of athletics with a social, networking
twist, the SDAFFL should be your next stop. For
more information on the league and its history
and upcoming events please visit
SDAFFL.com
or google San Diego American Football League.
Hope to see you out there!
