Assistant Surgeon from 22 December 1840 and in 1842 is shown as ‘doing duty in China with 2nd N.I.’ . McIntosh served in the
expedition to China and was present at Woosung and Ching-Keang-Foo.

Victory). This last medal was sold in our sale of 17 September 2009 (Lot 38).

Khan. 13th Regt. N.I.) impressed naming, minor marks, otherwise very

Only partial rolls survive for the 13th Bengal Native Infantry but Havildar Surdar
Khan is not listed on them. A memorial to the regiment at Lucknow records that
nine havildars were among those that died during the siege of the city but sadly
gives no names. However, the style of naming indicates that this could possibly
be a medal to the 13th Bombay Native Infantry, in which case entitlement to the
clasp for the Defence of Lucknow is not a possibility.

This regiment would normally be entitled to Defence of Lucknow and Lucknow
clasps. It is not thought that they took any part in Campbell’s second relief of the
city.
