2012 PROFILE
Jean Tomlin
We talk to Jean Tomlin, director of human resources for
the London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG), about
how the general public can get involved in the Olympic
volunteering programme and what skills are needed
Why are volunteers such a
key part of delivering the Olympic
and Paralympic Games?
Every Olympic and Paralympic Games
needs volunteers in order to deliver the
events and London 2012 is no exception.
We anticipate requiring up to 70,000 in
a variety of different roles. About half
of these will come with specialist skills
that we need to help deliver the Games.
When and how will you start
to recruit volunteers?
The application process will open in
the summer of 2010 and we will then
assess and interview successful appli-
cants throughout 2011.
This process will be supported by an
online application form and clear infor-
mation as to what the roles are, what
