Fenix Solutions: the story so far

or me it all began in 1978 when I started working for
Lloyd Sound Ltd as a company accountant. In 1981 I
bought the business and my first large contract came
in October when we secured the contract to install the P.A.
and music system for an exciting new business venture in
Northern Ireland – DeLorean motors. This was a £27,000
contract that we had six weeks to complete. We worked
seven days a week and successfully delivered the project
on time. My abiding memory was waiting in their Finance
Department for three hours on Christmas Eve to collect a
cheque for the second half of the contract. And as history
shows us, that was a pretty good use of my time that day!
The early ‘80s saw the liberalization of the telecoms
industry. Ever ready to grab a new business opportunity
we expanded our portfolio and began competing in this
emerging market. New business was tough to win in the
early days. We were up against BT who had been the sole
telecoms supplier to Northern Ireland’s commercial and
domestic markets. There was a saying among
procurement managers back then: “Nobody ever got
sacked for buying from BT.”
