Continental employs Boeing 757 aircraft on
its Belfast – New York route and every
passenger enjoys audio visual on demand.

during the six hour transatlantic flight.
the new seats will all be in place by summer 2011. Unfortunately, as the
roll-out has started with the company's fleet of 20 Boeing 777's before
moving on to the 41 757's, Bob was not able to give a specific date by
which the new seats will be available on the Belfast route, but they are
coming – and soon. Interestingly, even though the new BusinessFirst Flat-
bed Seat offers a length of 6'6" (198.1 cm) and a full 180-degree recline,
the present configuration of 16 business class seats will remain the same.
Star Alliance
As you read this article, Continental will be in the process of completing
the transition from its membership of the SkyTeam Alliance to Star
Alliance. Continental joins the Alliance on October 27 giving Continental
passengers direct access to over 17,000 flights daily to over 900
destinations worldwide.
“Joining Star Alliance is a fantastic step forward for us and greatly
improves the service we can offer our passengers,” Bob explained. “The
Star Alliance presently includes 21 of the world's leading airlines such as
Air Canada, Lufthansa, United Airlines and Singapore Airlines and
Continental Airlines passengers will be able to 'earn and burn' OnePass
miles on any of the Star Alliance member airlines. In addition, Star Alliance
airlines are looking to locate closer together in airports, introducing new
technologies, building common facilities at airports, coordinating
schedules and installing connection teams for faster transfers. So the
overall experience for our passengers will be greatly enhanced our the
Star Alliance membership.”
Into the future
All of the new products and services offered by Continental not already
available to Belfast-based passengers will be so within a very short time.
Meanwhile, the airline continues to invest in the future fulfilling its goal of
being a 'good global citizen'.
“The next revolution is our investment in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
This super-efficient airplane will cut our fuel consumption by 20 per cent,”
Bob said. “And then, of course, there's our continued investment in
biofuels. Since 1997 have achieved a 36 per cent reduction in our CO2
emissions. That's a figure we're proud of, but we're not finished yet!”
Continental Airlines serves its New York hub, Newark Liberty
International Airport with daily flights except during the winter when thre
are five flights per week. The 757 aircraft are equipped with Audio Video
On Demand entertainment systems in BusinessFirst and Economy. The
system features up to 40 feature films, 60 television shows, over 2,000
tracks of music, 20 interactive video games, and the Berlitz Word Traveller
