Another event I’m looking forward to this month is the third annual Toast to
Hillcrest on August 13. The event features tasty treats and drinks from local res-
taurants and bars, all for just $25! That’s a price even this girl can afford. Get your
tickets online at hillcresthistory.org. Also, show up for one last local Pride event
August 16 at Memorial Park in historic downtown Chula Vista to celebrate South
Bay Pride! The event lasts from noon to 7:00 p.m. and admission is free.
Finally, my last suggestion for the month is to be sure to attend the 16th an-
nual Miss Gay International on Sunday, August 29 at The Center. The awards will
be presented by Franceska and I hope every one of you will show up to support
and enjoy a pageant that welcomes all participants. The event takes place at the
end of the month, so there is plenty of time to sign up and become a participant
yourself. Simply e-mail Franceska at franceska@cox.net to enter.
July Recap
Good Lord, July was busy. July is one of the busiest months of the year and it is
a lot of fun but it is also totally exhausting. If I ran things, I would split July into two
months. Either that, or I need a clone to help me keep on top of my busy schedule.
Of course, the biggest event of the month was San Diego Pride. This year was
actually more fun than in year’s past because all of us at Rage decided not to have
a float in the parade or a booth at the festival. Instead we just wanted to enjoy the
weekend ourselves and not have to work. It was kind of a new thing for me and
I definitely enjoyed it. I kicked off the weekend at the Ron Benzon Foundation
Pride kick-off party at the breathtaking home of Kent Swedell and Mark Cujak in
La Mesa. The foundation always outdoes itself with every new party event being
bigger and better than the last.
Later that same evening, I went to a Pride party at the home of my good friends
Ed and Michael in Mission Hills. The guys have a wonderful house that is defi-
nitely made for entertaining and with so many cute guys standing around, I was
in heaven. It was one event I was glad I attended solo. Why bring a guy on my arm
when I can leave with three or four?
On Pride Saturday, I woke up early at 10:00 a.m. and got pretty so I could head to
Hillcrest and watch the parade. I had a perfect view from the House.Boi boutique
where I enjoyed myself in the shade with some drinkies and some cute go-go
boys in between contingents. As always, the parade was spectacular and it always
reminds me of my first one when I was 16 and my first fruit fly took me to the corner
of Sixth and Robinson to watch the parade.
The festival on Saturday and Sunday was also amazing. For those of you who

didn’t go on Sunday, you’re missing the best parts of the event. Acts like The Bird
and The Bee rocked the house and headliner Shiny Toy Guns packed them in to

close the evening! It was fun to see so many people having a good time. I realize
that we still have a little way to go before we are truly equal, but it is still amazing
to consider how far we have come, and THAT is something to celebrate.
And then there was that little event known as Comic-Con. I went Friday and
This is one of my favorite times of the year. Summer is in full swing and I’m go-
Sunday and it was fun, but they really could improve the crowd problem by get-
ing a million miles per hour trying to keep up. July was complete chaos with one
ting rid of the obnoxiously huge display booths by major networks and movie
huge event after another and August looks like it won’t be quite so chaotic, it will
studios. They should also move all the major autographs and special events that
definitely keep me just as busy.
cause the floor to be clogged by long lines, upstairs and out of the way. Still despite
What I really need is to find myself an escort. No, not THAT kind of escort, get
the crowds, I think it would be stupid to move the event out of San Diego, but I’m
your mind out of the gutter. I just need some arm candy who can go to events
also against expanding the Convention Center when the city is in so much debt
with me. It’s tough to find guys like that though because I need someone who
and we haven’t even finished paying for it yet. Just get rid of the huge displays and
knows how to act around a socialite like myself, and since I’m 6’2” I need someone

who will match up well with an Amazon princess. August 8 and 9 is the return
of the Summer Sports Classic. The event features plenty of athletes doing their

thing playing softball, golf, and tennis. The weekend benefits PAWS, so in addi-
